US contractors in Haitian reconstruction

This is an alarming article about US-based contractors working in Haiti. Much of the US's official government aid to Haiti has gone or will go to such private US companies. This is a real shame, because no one dealing with Haiti right now can claim that they are unaware of the importance of contracting with local companies and organizations, consulting local people, and not just seeing the Haitian reconstruction as a bonanza for US companies. So the reason for the channeling of aid dollars to US contractors must be sheer cynicism and greed. I'm also distressed at the seeming aid-military nexus, as it is apparent that many of the contractors cited in the article also work in the private security and mercenary sectors.
