Bill Clinton's welfare reform

This is a depressing story on the consequences of the 90s-era reforms to the US national welfare program.  Summary:  we drastically reduced the rolls of welfare recipients by making it more difficult and humiliating to access benefits, not by empowering them to find gainful employment as a way out of poverty.
