This is an interesting analysis of Chicago Public Schools, specifically the elementary schools. According to the author, 3rd-graders in Chicago test significantly below national averages on standardized achievement measures, but by 8th grade they are more or less equal to their peers nationwide. That means the grammar schools are doing a really good job. The article goes on to explore some of the reasons for this grammar-school excellence.
