Not extracting oil
This article talks about the Yasuni natural park in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Apparently a huge amount of oil, 850 million barrels, underlies this rainforest. But the government of Ecuador, at the urging of the indigenous inhabitants of the reserve, has decided not to exploit this resource. In return, the international community will pay half the oil's value to the Ecuadorian government, as an indemnification from the rest of the world for not adding 410 million tons of CO2 to the atmosphere.
