Water in the Southwest
Here is an article about the decreasing availability of water vs. the increasing demand in the Colorado River basin. It's not a new topic, but it seems, as the title implies, that we're reaching a real moment of reckoning. The arrangement of having millions of people living in a desert is no longer only theoretically nonviable, it seems that now those people are really going to be facing the absolute limits imposed by a desert.
